Description

A tool for ecosystem valuation based on small payments made by marine tourists for each animal sighting and transferred directly to coastal communities. Project piloting in Morotai, Indonesia to help make a new marine protected area (MPA) by working with three local dive operators and three communities that are located in the centre of the MPA, at the most critical areas. By financially rewarding the communities for wildlife sighted, the communities are committed to work in monitoring of the MPA, environmental restoration, education and development of women enterprises.
