This report was drafted by a working group of United Nations entities, the World Bank, and other stakeholders to suggest a common understanding of the blue economy; to highlight the importance of such an approach, particularly for small island developing states and coastal least developed countries; to identify some of the key challenges its adoption poses; and to suggest some broad next steps that are called for in order to ensure its implementation.

The Coastal Capital series provides decision-makers in the Caribbean with information and tools that link the health of coastal ecosystems. WRI and its partners have conducted economic valuation studies of coral reefs and mangroves at national and subnational levels in 5 countries: Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Belize, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica and are using the results to identify and build support for policies that help to ensure healthy coastal ecosystems and sustainable economies.

This working paper looks at the benefits that coastal ecosystems provide to the Dominican Republic. The studies highlight the contribution of coastal ecosystems to the economy and the need for greater investment in protecting coastal and marine ecosystems, including better management of marine fisheries, protection of existing reserves, and enforcement of coastal development guidelines.

This report by the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy provides the framework for sustainable ocean plans, which provide a credible basis for safeguarding the ocean, attracting investment and creating jobs to the benefit of coastal communities and national economies.

This report showcases a balanced model that simultaneously achieves effective ocean protection, sustainable production and equitable prosperity.

This report is part of the Developing and Promoting Sustainable Nature-based Tourism in the Coral Triangle project. An initiative, supported by funding from the Australian Government, looks to assist countries of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) to develop and/or accelerate a long-term approach to more sustainable Nature-based Tourism in the Coral Triangle (Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste).

This report reviews the range of mechanisms being used by protected areas to raise funds from tourism and considers the practicality for socioeconomic contributions to local economies through tourism.
